Start with a basic coat closet and turn it into an Elevator!

Have you ever thought about buying a home but the master bedroom was upstairs and you passed?  What about those of you who have rooms upstairs you never use because you have a bum knee, bad back, dogs that have medical conditions, or you just don’t want to lug the suitcases or laundry up and down the stairs.

Many homeowners are opting to install/ purchase an elevator so that they can use their home more effectively. Read below to find out more about the process.

First, call your local elevator company and have them come out to evaluate the home to determine if there is a closet or space that will work to add an elevator.  You can do this during an inspection or option period, this will allow you to cancel the contract if it is not a viable option.

Once that space is identified you have to determine what kind of elevator is best for space.  Do you have a traditional slab or post tension? The elevator company will help you with all aspects of this process including framing, engineering, and finalizing the space.

The actual cost of the elevator can run from $15,000-$30,000 and that doesn’t include framing, electrical, engineering, and finish out.

Overall, a home elevator can increase the value of a home and provide access to upstairs for all home buyers.  If you plan ahead early, you can age gracefully with your home.

Lighting Up A Room By Adding A Window

Finished Look after Remodel

Finished Look after Remodel

I recently purchased a home and wanted to create more lighting in a very dark and drab kitchen. Being a licensed Real Estate Broker, I knew this would add value by allowing the kitchen to esthetically look better and allowing more light to permeate the space.

Not only did it create instant light, it took the bare wall with tons of gap between the cabinets and the ceiling, and gave it instant ambiance. The room feels warmer and the accent pieces placed on the cabinets now glow with the added beams of light coming through the window.  It was worth the extra $1500 spent and will pay off more when I go to sell the house.

By simply adding a window or replacing a window in your home, you can increase your house value, create a stylish look, and enhance your interior design. While this window didn’t give me a gorgeous view due to it’s height above the cabinets it did dramatically improve the light in the space in turn giving the kitchen a much larger and brighter feel. I am extremely pleased and know it will pay off when I go to sell the home!
